Grayson Community College Art Dept. GCC Student Art Work Featured in EXPO 08 Exhibition The Visual Arts Department at Grayson County College is currently hosting EXPO 08, an exhibition featuring sixty-five original works by twelve GCC Visual Arts students including David Ablett, Katie Arfman, Jade Bledsoe, Dianna M. Busby, Carrie Chambers, Eleanor Cox, Charlie McAnally, Laura Rhoades, M. Russell, Debra CB Sexton, Maria Silen, and Gary D. Starr II.  Included in the year-end student exhibit are paintings, sculpture, drawings, photography, and mixed media works.  EXPO 08 was selected and juried by Joni Beamish.  Ms. Beamish began her career as a potter in 1998 and is the owner and art director of Mystic Studio located in Denison, Texas.   Steve O. Black, GCC Fine Arts Chair, states, "The exhibition reflects the varied interests and approaches the students have learned in studio classes such as design, painting, and figure drawing.   Studio instructors Dr. Donna Finch Adams and Michael Winegarden have been instrumental in the success of the show.  In addition to teaching, they have made themselves available as mentors and have encouraged each student to find their own artistic path.  For art major Dianna Busby, being accepted into the show was a boost to her confidence and the payoff for working hard in her studio classes.  Busby states, When viewing my work alongside other art students it helps me see my strengths as well as my weaknesses.  I feel now that I am becoming part of the art of the future."   The exhibit is showing at the 2nd Floor Gallery located on the second floor of the GCC Library.  The show will run through May 8.  The exhibit is free and the gallery is open Monday to Thursday, 8am to 9pm; Friday, 8am to 4pm; and Sunday, 1pm to 4pm.  For more information on the EXPO 08 Exhibit and future shows, contact Steve O.
